Conference Secretariat Information

Each year, UNA-USA hosts Model UN conferences for students in public schools across the country. If you are interested and ready to take on the challenge of the Global Classrooms conference, then read on to learn more about this exciting opportunity.

Model UN Secretariat Staff Qualifications

  • Model UN delegate experience and/or conference organizing experience
  • Currently pursuing a degree at a college/university or a recent graduate
  • Daily access to internet and e-mail
  • Excellent time management skills and able to devote time to responsibilities listed
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • Desire to work with and lead a diverse group of people
  • Comfortable working and solving problems under pressure
  • Strong desire to lead a Global Classrooms Model UN conference

Secretariat Staff Positions and Responsibilities

As a member of the Secretariat, you will serve in one of the capacities listed below. Please note that some of the positions are only available for certain conferences. A detailed description of positions available at each conference in addition to conference staff roles and responsibilities can be found here.

Conference staff at Global Classrooms: Beirut
  • Chair (Preference will be given first to returning Global Classrooms Secretariat members)
  • Director
  • Assistant Director
  • Rapporteur
  • Crisis Staff
  • Conference Services Staff
  • Logistics Staff
  • Chronicle Staff

As a member of the Secretariat, you will be communicating with UNA-USA and Secretariat on various tasks on a regular basis. Responsibilities will include participating in staff training before the conference, addressing logistical needs at the conference, as well as other tasks deemed necessary by UNA-USA.

Local Conference Staff Participation and Travel

UNA-USA will, as much as possible, select local applicants to staff its conferences, with the sole exception of UNA-USA Model UN on May 14-16, 2009. Only in extremely exceptional cases will UNA-USA fly an applicant to another conference out of their area to staff.

In addition, applicants who are selected to be a part of the UNA-USA Model UN Secretariat will be required to staff other Global Classrooms conferences located within their area.
