What is Panwapa?
Sesame Workshop, in partnership with the Merrill Lynch Foundation, has created a multi-media project to help inspire and empower a new generation of children to become responsible global citizens. This initiative is being developed to foster global awareness in children ages 4-7. Its goal is to help young children gain five basic competencies that are the foundation to the development of good global citizenship. Panwapa, which means "Here on this Earth" in Tshiluba, a language spoken in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, is an imaginary island that kids can log-on to and join at www.panwapa.com. At the website, they can watch videos, learn about other countries and cultures and meet kids from around the world!
How can I get involved?
If you're a high school student who participates in UNA-USA's Global Classrooms® program and would like to help kids get involved with Panwapa and learn how to be global citizens, you can become a Panwapa Ambassador! The Panwapa Ambassadors are an important part of the Panwapa program. They organize and lead a group of kids through the learning process at panwapa.com. Ambassadors have a chance to influence the lives of children by helping them learn about the world around them.
