OTHER WAYS TO
EXPLORE UNA-USA.ORG:

The Interdependent

Covering the United Nations for More than Three Decades

Founded in 1973, The InterDependent is an online news magazine, produced by the United Nations Association of the USA (UNA-USA) that keeps UNA-USA members and the public at-large in touch with the inner-workings of the United Nations. Since its inception, TheInterDependent.com has become a leader in covering the people and work of the UN, doing so in a way few other outlets can.

In fact, no other media organization -- online, print, nonprofit, or commercial -- has ever fully devoted itself to the issues that The InterDependent covers. The InterDependent, or simply “The ID”, provides readers with in-depth analysis and reporting on issues such as: development; the environment; health; human rights; and peacekeeping. Recent coverage has included: photo essays on UN peacekeeping and sustainable development; refugee challenges in India; series of articles on women’s rights and the Arab Spring; and other hot topics such as the ICC’s First Verdict and the humanitarian crisis in North Korea.

The ID has provided readers with exclusive interviews with key leaders such as former Secretary-General Kofi Annan and current Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. Other exclusives featured an interview with the Brazilian diplomat Sergio Vieira de Mello -- mere weeks before he was killed in a suicide bombing attack at the UN headquarters in Iraq. The ID also featured interviews with prominent human rights advocate Asma Jahangir, Ted Turner, Hans Blix, Richard C. Holbrooke, Senator Richard Lugar and Pope John Paul II, and has profiled Susan Rice, the U.S. ambassador to the UN.

In addition to original photos and content, The InterDependent features the latest contributions from UN Wire, UN Dispatch, captivating photos from the UN Photo Library, and up-to-the-minute social media content from the UN, UNA-USA, and the United Nations Foundation.

We hope you enjoy all The ID has to offer, and we welcome your questions and comments, which you can send to publications@unausa.org.
