Members Gather in Washington, DC for the 2013 Annual Meeting
UNA-USA members from 58 Chapters and 30 states gathered in Washington, DC last week to discuss the importance of a strong U.S.-UN relationship during the 2013 UNA-USA Annual Meeting. On the final day of the conference, members from across the country conducted more than 100 visits on Capitol Hill, meeting with their members of Congress and letting them know there is a voting constituency that is passionate about the United Nations. Check out video and photos from the conference. Did you attend? Help us improve for next year and take the Annual Meeting Evaluation Survey!
UNA-USA Holds First Intergenerational Model United Nations
UNA-USA’s 2013 Annual Meeting featured an Intergenerational Model United Nations (IGMUN) simulation of a UNHCR committee. Thirty participants, ranging in age from 19 to 80, represented member states in a session focused on Environmentally Displaced Persons.
The IGMUN session, led by UNA East Bay members, was the first opportunity for most attendees to experience Model UN in an inter-generational context. Members, Chapter leaders, and Global Classrooms coordinators discussed pressing issues, built relationships while caucusing, and saw the possibilities of IGMUN as a community activity to learn and share about the United Nations.
Missed it? Here’s your next chance — celebrate UN Month and UNA-USA’s 70th anniversary with IGMUN 2013 at San Francisco State University, hosted by the Northern California Division on October 19. Register online now (early registration fees until June 30th!) at www.IGMUN.weebly.com.
UNA Women Seeks Chapter Leads
UNA Women has 1100 members and continues to grow, but we need your assistance to integrate UNA Women into the UNA-USA Chapter network. UNA Women seeks to appoint a UNA Women lead in UNA-USA Chapters across the country. If you know of someone in your Chapter who is interested in women's empowerment and gender equality, please recommend the UNA Women role to the member. See a complete description of a UNA Women lead here. If you have any questions about UNA Women or the UNA Women lead position, please email Tanisha Dyall at email@example.com.
Who's Your Chapter's Outstanding Member? Nominate Them for a 70th Anniversary Legacy Award
In celebration of UNA-USA's 70th anniversary, UNA-USA would like to honor the individuals who have made a positive impact on Chapters across the United States. Throughout UNA-USA's rich history, individuals have dedicated their time, energy, and skills to create a nationwide network of United Nations supporters. Each UNA-USA Chapter is asked to select one individual to be honored with a Chapter Legacy Award. All awardees will be profiled on UNA-USA's 70th anniversary website. UNA-USA's Membership Team will provide Chapters with certificates to present to the recipient of this award. For more information, please download the application.
