UNA-USA, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Embark on Partnership to Bring Globally-Focused Education to High School Youth

The United Nations Association of the USA (UNA-USA) and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority (AKA), Inc. have embarked on a new partnership with the aim of creating global citizens and fostering new audiences to better support the United Nations. The partnership, set to last until mid-2016, will engage a new generation of “ambassadors” in the vital work of the UN, through globally-focused workshops and activities, including Model UN simulations.

Oregon Native Selected as New U.S. Youth Observer to UN

August 26, 2014
The United Nations Association of the USA (UNA-USA) and the U.S. Department of State today named Jackson Dougan the next U.S. Youth Observer to the United Nations. As Youth Observer, Dougan will be the third American to represent a youth voice at the United Nations General Assembly and other UN events throughout the next year. He was selected from more than 600 applicants to the program, and will engage with peers and report on his experiences over the year.

Justice Michael Kirby Honored With Leo Nevas Human Rights Award

New York -- Following his leadership in a landmark report on human rights violations in North Korea, the United Nations Association of the USA (UNA-USA) Leo Nevas Human Rights Task Force will award Justice Michael Kirby with the 2014 Leo Nevas Human Rights Award. Recognizing Justice Kirby’s work as chair of the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, the award will be presented at the UN Foundation and UNA-USA Global Leadership Dinner on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 in New York.

The United Nations Association of the USA (UNA-USA) remembers the life of William W. Scranton and his tireless dedication to international cooperation, particularly during his service representing the United States at the UN and throughout his storied career. Scranton, who is perhaps best known for his term as governor of Pennsylvania from 1963 to 1967 and his 1964 U.S. presidential campaign, served as U.S. Ambassador to the UN from 1976 to 1977 and was the Chair of UNA-USA from 1977 to 1980.

NEW YORK -- Brooke Loughrin was a dedicated and diligent student at Boston College in Fall 2012 when she received a call that would change her life for the next year and beyond. “YO!”, a new and spirited documentary short produced by the United Nations Association of the USA (UNA-USA), tells the story of Brooke’s selection to be the first-ever U.S. Youth Observer at the United Nations, and demonstrates how youth voices are actively involved in the UN’s work.
