1,500 Students to Take On Global Issues At International Middle School Model UN

NEW YORK -- Today, 1,500 middle school students from around the world will join together at UN Headquarters for the United Nations Association of the USA’s (UNA-USA) Global Classrooms® International Middle School Model UN Conference. This three-day conference is the only international Model UN conference designed specifically for students in grades 5-8, and is the largest middle school Model UN in the world.

UN Foundation Honors Change Agents Helping United Nations Build Better Future

The event also celebrated the 70th Anniversary of UNA-USA, and recognized the 15-year legacy of leadership of former UN Foundation President and current Board Vice Chair Timothy E. Wirth, who was honored with the Champion for Global Change award.

UNA-USA and U.S. Department of State Name New U.S. Youth Observer at the UN

WASHINGTON -- The United Nations Association of the USA (UNA-USA) and the U.S. Department of State have named Tiffany Taylor as the next U.S. Youth Observer at the United Nations. As the Youth Observer, Taylor has been awarded the opportunity of a lifetime; a chance to see the United Nations in action, in person, during the UN General Assembly and other high-profile UN events. She emerged from nearly 700 applicants to the program, and will report on her experiences to peers and the entire world in the coming weeks.

UNA-USA Opens Application Period for Next U.S. Youth Observer at the UN General Assembly

WASHINGTON -- The United Nations Association of the USA (UNA-USA) and the U.S. Department of State are now accepting applications for the U.S. Youth Observer at the UN General Assembly. The popular program debuted last year with more than 730 applicants from 47 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. The program gives young U.S. citizens the chance of a lifetime; an opportunity to see the United Nations in action and in person during the UN General Assembly and other high-profile UN events throughout the year – and then report on their experiences to their peers and the rest of the world.

The United Nations Association of the USA (UNA-USA) remembers the life of William W. Scranton and his tireless dedication to international cooperation, particularly during his service representing the United States at the UN and throughout his storied career. Scranton, who is perhaps best known for his term as governor of Pennsylvania from 1963 to 1967 and his 1964 U.S. presidential campaign, served as U.S. Ambassador to the UN from 1976 to 1977 and was the Chair of UNA-USA from 1977 to 1980.

The simulation is part of an exciting new collaboration designed to provide U.S. embassies across the globe small-scale, classroom-ready Model UN materials for use in youth outreach activities.
