UNA-USA Executive Director Brings Message of the United Nations to HawaiiPatrick Madden visits with island Chapters, state elected officials, and studentsMarch 6, 2013 United Nations Association of the USA (UNA-USA) Executive Director Patrick Madden is in Hawaii’s capital today speaking to leading thinkers in foreign policy and Hawaii elected officials about the UN and its vital work around the world. Madden is speaking at the East-West Center at Noon on human security and sustainable development. Later today, he will speak at the State Capitol on pressing issues facing the UN and how citizens of the State of Hawaii can engage with the UN’s work. “Today’s meetings with UNA-USA members in Hawaii, elected officials, and the public represent how important engagement with the island community is for the U.S.-UN relationship,” said Madden. “Citizens in Hawaii help make up the more than eight in 10 Americans who believe it is important for the U.S. to stand by the UN in its efforts to lead the way in addressing the world’s urgent global conversations and crises. UNA-USA has a strong presence here, and or Chapters in Hawaii are leaders in educating Americans on the work of the UN.” Today’s events come on the heels of the re-launch of the UNA-USA Hawaii Island Chapter, which occurred yesterday in Hilo. The speaking engagements are part of a week-long agenda connecting UNA-USA with the citizens of Hawaii, including upcoming events at Brigham Young University’s Laie Campus and the University of Hawaii.
