COO Convenes Panel on Gender Equality

More than 100 representatives of area organizations joined UNA-USA’s Council of Organizations (COO) at the Salvation Army auditorium in New York City for a panel discussion on “Women’s Unfinished Business at the UN”. Attendees heard from leaders at UN Women and other NGOs on the status of gender equality in developing nations and the UN system today. The panel also discussed needs and strategies moving forward to improve health, economics, and civic participation for women worldwide. Panelists included: Lopa Banerjee, Chief, Civil Society Section, UN Women; Joan Holmes, Founder, The Hunger Project; and Aparna Mehrotra, Senior Adviser & Focal Point, Women for the UN System

Join a Special Discussion with the 2012 Leo Nevas Human Rights Awardee

UNA-USA members are invited to join the Council of Organizations for “Human Rights Inside Syria: An Interview with Paulo Sérgio Pinheiro” on Wednesday, October 17 at the UN Millennium Plaza Hotel Ballroom from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The event is a special opportunity to hear UNA-USA’s 2012 Leo Nevas Human Rights winner speak on one of the most pressing human rights issues occurring today.
