The East Bay chapter provides year-round educational programs and award-winning advocacy opportunities to the 35 cities in two counties near San Francisco. Â One of the most active UNA chapters for decades since its founding in 1954, the Chapter is led by an active, diverse group of Directors, Advisors and other volunteers (including students and young professionals who constitute 1/3 of the Board of Directors). Â Teamwork is a hallmark of our successes. Â Among flagship programs are UN Day Celebrations at which Global Citizen Awards are presented to achievements about one of the UN MDGs, to a full-capacity crowd for 9 successive years; Â Human Rights and Women's Day programs; a 40+ year traditional Parade and UN Flag-raising Ceremonies; regular Dinner-Forums and other activities that feature UN-related themes e.g. climate change. Â Six programs were offered in 2014 about Peace and Human Security, including an essay contest. Â Currently 1500 people are on our listserv. Â A UNA Center has been maintained for outreach to the public, and for the sale of UNICEF cards and other items -- generating $100,000's for UNICEF over the past 6 decades. Â Â Looking to other external needs, East Bay Chapter has raised funds for other UN-related causes, most recently being honored due to activities that contributed enough for 2014 mosquito bed-nets, administered through the UN Foundation's (UNA's) Nothing But Nets campaign. Â The Chapter has also played a lead role in the Northern California Division in recent years -- including with several Division officers, and leaders who have organized and administered the Division's annual Inter-generational Model UNs for the last three years. Â The Chapter also supports and collaborates with the UNA campus group at UC Berkeley (UNAB) on programs and advocacy, and a couple of their officers are on the Chapter's Board of Directors.
