Frequently Asked Questions: UNA-USA Internship Program

Who can apply for an internship position with UNA-USA?

Undergraduates, graduate students and professionals pursuing advanced degrees.

When is the application deadline?

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

How will I be notified about the internship decision?

If a UNA-USA staff member is interested in your application, you will be contacted via phone or email in order to discuss your application.

What are the general requirements for interns at UNA-USA?

In general, interns are expected to come in 3-4 days a week and work anywhere between 20-25 hours per week. The duration of an internship is typically 3 months.

Can I apply for the internship if I do not live in the U.S. or if I am not a U.S. citizen?

You can apply for the internship irrespective of your country of residency or nationality. However, we do not provide housing or any other accommodations. UNA does not sponsor visas.

Does UNA-USA have paid internships?

Unfortunately, we do not have paid internships.

What if I have a special circumstance that does not fit with the general requirements of a UNA-USA internship?

If a UNA-USA staff member accepts your application, you will work directly with him/her on the specific details of the internship. Details can include the final work schedule, internship duration and actual project content.

Can high school students apply?

Unfortunately, we do not accept high school students.

If I am not accepted for an internship with UNA-USA, may I reapply for future semesters?

Certainly. We encourage you to reapply as many times as you like. We are grateful for your interest in our organization.

If I am not accepted and intend to reapply in the future, will UNA-USA hold on to my completed application?

No. Unfortunately, we receive too many applications to extend this courtesy. All applicants who intend to reapply must do so with a newly completed application packet.

What comprises a completed application packet?

A completed application consists of the following:

  • Cover Letter/Letter of Intent
  • Resume/CV
  • Completed Application Form
  • Answers to the Short Answer Questions
  • Writing Sample
  • 2 Written Letters of Recommendation Applications are NOT considered unless all of the above components are included.
What is a writing sample?

A writing sample should be a document that you have produced either currently or in the past that best reflects your ability to perform research and put your thoughts to paper. There is no set length for a writing sample but brevity is preferred. We require a maximum of 5 pages.

What are letters of recommendation?

Letters of recommendation are letters which demonstrate your aptitude for this internship, written by a current or former professor, employer or supervisor. UNA-USA requires 2 letters of recommendation. Sources for the letters of recommendation can be either academic or professional. They cannot be personal.

Can letters of recommendation be mailed separately?

Yes. But please note that we must receive your completed packet before it is sent through the review process. Should one or all of your recommendations fail to reach our offices; your application will not be considered.
