Interning for College Credits at the United Nations Association of the USA

The United Nations Association of the USA’s college internship program allows students from accredited institutions throughout the US to gain practical experience in the workforce that complements theoretical teaching found in class and lecture rooms.

The UNA-USA program runs in conjunction with regular academic semesters, so only matriculating students are allowed to participate and must show proof of enrollment. UNA-USA’s internship experience can serve as class sessions, enabling students to earn 3 credits for a minimum of 20 hours a week.

Interns are tasked with a variety of projects that are ranked on the same level as school assignments. Each intern works closely with a manager/director and staff of a particular department. Interns report directly to the manager/director, who serves as the intern’s supervisor.

Each project is to be completed at the end of a semester. A midterm assessment of the project is conducted and may serve as a grade for the interns. Similarly, the completion of a project may serve as a final grade.

Monthly meetings between UNA-USA’s internship coordinator and the internship coordinator/manager of the internship program at the accredited institution can be arranged to discuss a student’s progress.

Interning for college credit is applicable only to institutions of higher learning where there is a pre-existing or newly instituted system or program that helps place students in internship programs like UNA-USA’s.
