Global Classrooms: Beijing Model UN Conference
Chinese FlagBeijing operated in partnership with Peking University (PKU), one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in China. Often compared to the likes of Harvard, MIT, Princeton, Oxford, and Cambridge, PKU was one of the first Chinese universities to have a Model UN program; its students have been attending Model UN conferences around the world for the past several years. Annually, the president of Peking University opens the Global Classrooms conference where committees are led by experienced university-level Model UN staff from universities throughout Beijing. As in the case of most international cities, the Beijing program incorporates Global Classrooms in their high schools and middle schools as a means to help with English language learning. Global Classrooms operates in 77 classrooms across 25 provinces including: Anhui, Beijing, Fujian, Gansu, Guangdong, Hebei, Heilongjiang, Henan, Hunan, Inner Mongolia, Jiangsu, Jiangxi, Jilin, Lianoning, Macau, Shaanxi, Shandong, Shanhai, Shanxi, Sichuan, Taiwan, Tianjin, Yunnan, and Zhejiang. For the forth year, students from the Beijing program will travel to New York in May to participate in the United Nations Association Model UN Conference (UNAUSAMUN) held at UN Headquarters.
