Global Classrooms: Tampa Bay

Before the introduction of Global Classrooms in Hillsborough and Pinellas counties, only four high schools participated in Model United Nations, and at that time only as an extra-curricular activity. Although there was increasing interest in international education among some county teachers, there was no truly international curriculum in use.

Now in its fifth year, Global Classrooms: Tampa Bay has over 75 teachers who teach the curriculum to students in over 120 classrooms in 40 schools.

Global Classrooms has earned the support of district social studies supervisors Dennis Holt and Martha Ford in Hillsborough County and Randy Lightfoot in Pinellas County, as well as officials at the district-administration levels. The program also enjoys the support of major universities, including the University of South Florida and the University of Tampa.

Global Classrooms is aligned to the Florida Sunshine State Standards in Social Studies.
