Model UN Skill-Building Workshop I - Wednesday, November 8, 2006 at 4:30-7:00pm

This workshop, offered to ALL middle school and high school Model UN advisors (from both Global Classrooms and non-Global Classrooms schools) was a great opportunity to learn more about Model UN skills, including position papers, resolutions, flow of debate, rules of procedure, caucusing and even chairing. Teachers learned about how to incorporate skills like research, writing, reading comprehension and public speaking that are crucial to every strong Model UN program. By reading background guides and writing mock position papers, participants prepared for a real debate simulution. Then, one of our Model UN trainers chaired a simulation where the teachers represented countries and debated the topic of landmines. This debate became lively as certain delegates took their roles very seriously. Teacher feedback was positive, so we will have another Model UN Skill-Building Workshop in the winter.
