Global Classrooms®: Los Angeles

The Global Classrooms program arrived in Los Angeles in 2003 and has been expanding ever since. The Global Classrooms curriculum is used city-wide to expose LAUSD students to current international issues using in-class simulations of real United Nations bodies.

Initially, Global Classrooms: Los Angeles began a partnership with LAUSD District 6’s Beyond the Bell Extended Learning Academy. The Beyond the Bell program used Global Classrooms resources and Model UN as vehicles to teach vital skills in literacy, speaking and writing.

Beyond classroom participation, the annual Global Classrooms: Los Angeles Model UN Conference sponsored by the United Nations Association of the USA has also seen a yearly rise in participants. In May 2003, Global Classrooms: Los Angeles hosted over 200 students at its first annual Model UN Conference. On June 2, the 2005 Global Classrooms: Los Angeles Model UN Conference was held at the Los Angeles Convention Center and hosted over 920 students.  The upcoming conference in the spring of 2008 will gather more than 1,000 students from the surrounding LA area as well as international delegations.  To read more, click on Model UN Conference.

At the Model UN conferences, student participants discuss a variety of current global issues and produce resolutions aimed at eradicating problems facing millions of people throughout the world.
