| Global Classrooms: Boston
In 1994, the UNA-USA Greater Boston Chapter launched Bringing the World to Our Children, the centerpiece of its educational outreach efforts. Over the next several years, the chapter implemented the program in schools throughout the Boston area, including several BPS schools. In the spring of 1996, the curriculum was used by the Massachusetts Corporation for Educational Telecommunication (MCET) for a series of nationwide interactive broadcasts via satellite.
In 2001, a national team updated and transformed the curriculum, creating the present-day Global Classrooms program. Global Classrooms has been implemented in more than 35 schools in the Boston area, including many in the Boston Public Schools system. BPS schools participating in the program include Another Course to College, Charlestown High School, Excel High School and the Muriel Snowden International High School. Finally, participating schools are invited to take part in the annual Global Classrooms: Boston Model UN conferences held at Northeastern University. To date, over 2000 middle and high school students have participated in the Global Classrooms: Boston Model UN conferences.
