The United Nations: New Paths & Causal Linkages To Attaining Peace & Security

During the 70 years since the United Nations was established in San Francisco in 1945, the UN has continued to evolve and adapt to fulfill the goals in its Charter, grounded on the pursuit of peace, human rights, and economic and social justice.  On December 10, 1948, the UN General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.  Among those rights are the right to life, liberty and personal security.  The year 2015 marked another milestone for the UN and its Members.  In a historic decision, the UN adopted 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) to end poverty, fight inequality and injustice and tackle climate change by 2030.  The SDGs include peace, justice and strong institutions.  A second highlight was the approval by consensus of a new Climate Change Agreement.
