Night of a Thousand Dinners 2008

Help Clean Up Cluster Bombs!

Night of A Thousand Dinners® (N1KD) is a global event that takes place between March 1 and April 30 to raise awareness of the global landmine crisis and to raise funds for mine action. All of the proceeds from this event will be used to fund Adopt-A-Minefield’s mine action programs

Throughout this time, tens of thousands of individuals around the world will join friends, family, neighbors, and colleagues in their homes, restaurants, community centers, and other venues to have dinner and raise funds for mine clearance and survivor assistance.

This year I am hosting a dinner that helps clean up cluster bombs. Proceeds from my dinner will help remove these deadly weapons.

A cluster bomb is a small explosive submunition or bomblet that is delivered to its target in a large canister or shell.

Cluster bombs are indiscriminate. They cannot distinguish between civilian and military targets. Their wide-area coverage and poor targeting mechanisms nearly guarantee that unintended victims will die or be injured, even when the weapons function as designed.

Cluster munitions continue to kill long after a war ends because these weapons often fail to explode on impact as designed.
