Vienna International Model United NationsSunday, August 11, 2013 The United Nations Youth and Student Association of Austria is honored to invite to the next Vienna International Model United Nations (VIMUN) from 11 to 15 August 2013 at the United Nations Office at Vienna in Austria. VIMUN is a conference for students and academics from 18 to 35 years of age simulating the work of the United Nations. Each participant ("Delegate") can choose a committee and a country to represent. Each Delegate has to research a country, take on the role as a diplomat, investigate international issues, debate, consult, and then develop a solution on the given topic. Established in 1995, VIMUN has become one of the most recognized Model United Nations (MUN) worldwide. Since the committee sessions are held directly at the original conference rooms of the UN, VIMUN participants are experienceing the unique and very authentic atmosphere of the United Nations at first hand. Determined to offer up-to-date topics we have set up 7 Committees for the simulation from which to choose a country to represent: 1) Security Council (SC) - Discussion on an urgent crisis 2) Humand Rights Council (HRC) - Relevance of Human Rights in the 21st Century 3) International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) - Illicit Nuclear Trafficking 4) United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) - Prevalence of the Use of Alcohol 5) International Monetary Fund (IMF) - The Sovereign Debt Crisis: Europe and the IMF 6) International Court of Justice (ICJ) - Territorial Disputes 7) Historic Council (HISTO) - League of Nations 1931: The Mukden Incident as the Pretext of the Japanese Imperialistic Intentions in East Asia Furthermore, it is a great opportunity to meet about 250 people from more than 40 countries and engage with them in interesting discussions. Next to extensive negotiations over the period of four days, a broad social program is offered each evening (welcome dinner, gala reception, intercultural night and clubbing). Do not hesitate to forward this invitation to your members, friends, students, and to advertise VIMUN on your website. Please check also our website http://www.vimun.org for more information, to see the list of open countries/committees and to remain updated on the registration.
