The Universal Declaration of Human Rights Comes to Richmond

East Bay Chapter

Monday, December 10, 2012
Location: Richmond City Hall Chambers, Richmond, CA

A Human Rights Day presentation before elected officials, Richmond Unified School District members, City Hall staff, members of Richmond Commissions including the Commission on Human Rights and Human Relations, and members of the public.

A 3-minute video on the UDHR will be played as the audience receives a copy of the UDHR, and a "Human Rights Scenario" card. The "Human Rights Scenario" cards contain human rights violations of high school students from around the world. Members of the audience work together as a group in figuring out which Article of the UDHR is involved in the card they are holding.

The UNA Committee Chair will introduces the program, giving a brief background and relevance of the UDHR today.

Two University of California Berkeley students - members of the Human Rights Day Committee - will then speak for 5 minutes on current human rights issues facing high school students in different countries.
