Nothing but Nets Basketball Tournament

Saturday, December 7, 2013
Every 60 seconds a child dies of malaria leading to 600,000 annual deaths from this preventable and treatable disease. A 3-on-3 basketball tournament will be held in support of Nothing but Nets, a U.N. Foundation campaign aiming to help end malaria by providing life-saving bed nets to sub-Saharan Africa. All proceeds from the tournament will go to the Nothing but Nets campaign to purchase, distribute and educate on long-lasting insecticide-treated bed nets for families in Sub-Saharan Africa. The National Basketball Association is a principal partner of Nothing but Nets, and encourages community basketball events to support this humanitarian campaign.

When:  Saturday, December 7, Noon-2:00pm

Where:  University of Iowa Field House, 225 South Grand, Iowa City

There will be a separate division for men and women.  If you are interested in playing please contact emilymcgovern@unaiowa.org, registration will be on a first come basis, but we want as many teams as possible! The fee for registration will be just $5 per player, half the cost of a bed net. Teams will also be asked to seek donations from family, friends, or anyone willing for the fundraising competition. The team to raise the most money for the Nothing but Nets campaign will receive an award, as will the champions of the tournament.
