International Women’s Day with the Westchester ChapterSunday, March 10, 2013 Location: Rye, NY
Please join UNA Westchester for “Contributions of Women to Peacebuilding Operations,” featuring Judith Cheng-Hopkins, United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Peacebuilding Support. Judy Cheng-Hopkins, Assistant Secretary-General for Peacebuilding Support at UN Headquarters since 2009, has had a long and successful UN career spanning over 30 years covering development and humanitarian work in Africa and Asia, with a 10 year stint in the field in Africa. Ms. Cheng-Hopkins has served in diverse high-level positions throughout the UN system, including as the Assistant High Commissioner for Refugees, Director of the World Food Programme’s Office for Asia and Eastern Europe, UNDP’s country offices in Zambia and Kenya, UNDP’s Deputy Assistant Administrator for Africa and Deputy Executive Secretary of the UN Capital Development Fund. Ms. Cheng-Hopkins received a Master of International Affairs degree from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, as well as degrees from Universitè d’Haute Bretagne in France and the Business School at Harvard University. She is a citizen of Malaysia and is the first Malaysian to be listed in Forbes magazine's list of “The 10 Most Powerful Women at the UN”. She is married to Dr. Thomas J. Hopkins; they live in Westchester and have two daughters. The program will be followed by a Q & A session and discussion moderated by Marcia Brewster, President of UNA Westchester.
