Experiencing Punishment & Torture in Iran with a UN Perspective

East Bay Chapter

Wednesday, January 16, 2013
Location: Berkeley, Cali.

At this East Bay Chapter Dinner-Forum, Sarah Shourd and Shane Bauer will generously share thoughts and reflections on their lengthy detention.

Sarah was in prison for over a year, the entire time in solitary. Shane was in prison for over two years, more than four months in solitary. They will comment on solitary confinement nationally and internationally, with references to solitary confinement as carried out in the U.S.

The United Nations considers solitary confinement to be torture or other cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment, all of which are violations of solemn treaty obligations.

Enjoy socializing and a mild-spiced Mediterranean buffet at Bacheeso's Restaurant. Hear Sarah & Shane's story; participate in Q&A and discussion with them.

Reservations advised no later than 13 January 2013. Space is limited. $20 per person ($10 for new members and students with ID).
