About the Conference

In 1990, the David M. Kennedy Center began sponsoring an annual Model United Nations Conference (BYUMUN), which has provided high school students with an outstanding simulation. Our goal is to always provide each student the opportunity to fully participate in this great beyond-the-classroom learning experience.

At BYUMUN, each school is assigned a specific country or countries. In preparation, students research global issues; especially those that pertain to the country their school represents. The entire experience provides students with increased global awareness and language arts skills. These skills are evident when students become immersed in parliamentary procedure, international research, policy writing, public speaking, diplomacy, and conflict resolution.

We encourage all students to participate in the BYUMUN conference. From past experience competing on a national level, we have discovered that people with varying interests and personalities make a strong team.

In fact, our teams have been comprised of students from nearly every field of study on campus. Likewise, high school teams sponsored by diverse disciplines (i.e., history, English, debate, geography, foreign language, fine arts, social studies and student councils) will find that BYUMUN is an invaluable experience for all students.

BYUMUN has proven to be a successful experience for educators and students. Our experienced staff is available prior to the conference to help teams develop the necessary skills to best represent their assigned country.
