Bill vanden Heuvel

William J. vanden Heuvel has been a Senior Advisor to Allen & Co. Inc., an investment banking firm, as well as Counsel to the law firm Stroock & Stroock & Lavan since 1984. During the Carter administration, vanden Heuvel was U.S. Permanent Representative to the European Office of the United Nations in Geneva and U.S. Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York. Ambassador vanden Heuvel has eloquently defended the UN's mission and importance with leadership roles in the United Nations Association of the USA and the World Federation of United Nations Associations. As Co-Chair of the Council of American Ambassadors, he has written reports on Israel and Cuba, and reported on the Northern Ireland Peace Process. He was Special Assistant to United States Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy from 1961 - 1964.

Ambassador vanden Heuvel serves as the Chairman of the Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt Institute, Amromco Energy LLC, and Chairman of the Council of American Ambassadors. He has been a Director of Zemex Corp., since 1989, engaged in the mining and exploitation of industrial minerals, as well as a Trustee of Asia Society. He has also been a Member of the IRC Group, a Washington D.C.-based consulting group made up of former United States ambassadors, since 1981. He served as a Director of Winstar Communications Inc., since June 1995, and from 1981-1993 Ambassador vanden Heuvel served as a Director of Time Warner.
