Thomas R. Pickering, Chair

In a diplomatic career spanning five decades, Thomas R. Pickering was U.S. Ambassador to the Russian Federation, India, Israel, El Salvador, Nigeria, and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Pickering also served on assignments in Zanzibar and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Pickering entered on active duty in the U.S. Navy from 1956-1959, and later served in the Naval Reserve to the grade of Lieutenant Commander. Between 1959 and 1961, he was assigned to the Bureau of Intelligence and Research of the U.S. Department of State and later to the Arms Control and Disarmament Agency. From 1962-1964, Pickering served in Geneva as political adviser to the U.S. Delegation to the 18-Nation Disarmament Conference.

Catherine Ann Bertini

Following more than a decade of service to the United Nations, Catherine Bertini joined the faculty of the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs in 2005 as Professor of Public Administration. She teaches courses in Humanitarian Action, UN Management, Girl's Education, and Post-Conflict Reconstruction, drawing on the vast experience she gained during her years of leadership in public sector management, international organizations, humanitarian relief, nutrition policy, and agricultural development.

Larry Levine

Larry Levine was born and raised in Schenectady, New York. For three years he was a leader of his high school Model UN program, and he was an AFS exchange student in Italy. He is a magna cum laude graduate of the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs of Princeton University, received a Masters in Public Administration degree from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, and did doctoral work in educational administration at Columbia University.

Bill McDonough

William J. McDonough served as the eighth President and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York for 10 years--from July 19, 1993 - June 10, 2003. On June 11, 2003, he became the Chairman of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) at the Securities and Exchange Commission. The PCAOB is a nonprofit organization created by the Sarbanes-Oxley Act to protect investors in U.S. securities by ensuring that public company financial statements are audited according to the highest standards.
